By  |

Welcome 2017!!
So it’s here, you did it…  a while some of us will come cruising into the finish line, others of us will be barely dragging ourselves across. But you know what? What didn’t kill us, definitely made us stronger. Take that 2016! And for that, it definitely calls for a celebration. Enter New Years Eve. An evening of social gatherings, where many people eat, dance, drink, watch or light fireworks to mark the coming of a new year. Boom, Pow, Crackle, Oooo… Ahh! And why not? We’ve earned it.

There is no right or wrong way to celebrate your year, but figuring out what you are going to do can be a hassle on its own. Like us here at 907 Life, many local Alaskans have made plans to paint the town red this New Years Eve. Many of our favorite local bars and restaurants and venues have planned huge theme parties, filled with dinner specials, dancing and giveaways. So what are your options? We put together a list of our top 4  favorite downtown events and are giving you the low down on where to bring in the New Year. Have you heard of these? So if you need help making up your mind? Read up…

New Years Eve Celebration
Anchorage Museums: Razzle Dazzle
As the title suggests, prepare to be dazzled. The Anchorage Museum opens its doors once again and this time under the helm of Showdown Productions to host the season’s biggest party. Sound familiar? Showdown is responsible for some of Anchorages biggest shows and headlining acts including Diplo, Dillion Francis, Riff Raff, Yella Wolf, Waka Flocka and more. This years museum party is a black and white theme and promises lasers, dinner specials, champagne toast and one of the hottest EDM DJs in the country, Slow Magic!

The Inside Scoop: Listen, take our word for it- this party is going to be rad. Amazing decor and lighting, formal attire and of course enough dance music to make up for even the worst year.  Showdown has quite the resume when it comes to awesome productions. But with that being said, be aware of the hefty ticket price. While you’re getting a bang for your buck, the bucks add up- When you consider the cost of an outfit, tickets, and monies spent on food and drink… you may become razzled before you’re dazzled. But it was a long year, so treat yo-self! Event costs: $65

New Years Eve Celebration
Humpy’s: N.Y.E BLT Party
Humpy’s is no stranger to the New Years Eve celebration game. Still, haven’t made up your mind? Humpy’s has decided to take the guess work out of it and put all the debauchery under one roof. It’s their annual Black Tie, Lingerie & Toga Party. Genius really… 3 connected venues, 3 themes, cheap cover. Boom. Humpy’s will be getting down 80’s style with I Like Robots. You can make your way over to Flattop, they will be pumping the jams from the 90’s with DJ Just Adam. And Bootleggers will be blaring the sounds of today with Myndgruv. Enough nostalgia for ya? You’re welcome.

The Inside Scoop: So for $10 you can’t really lose.  Our concern is and always will be the cover… unlike the sticker shock of some of the other events, the low price will likely lead to over crowding. For those looking to participate in a theme or have a conversation, forget about it. Expect a 30-40% costume participation and hard to get drinks. But with the addition of Williwaw and Blues Central, this year will add a little extra space to spread out. So to that we say CHEERS!! We cannot wait for the Instagram pictures from this one. Event costs: $10

New Years Eve Celebration
Northern Lights New Years Festival- Alaska
For a party that quite literally came out of nowhere. The Northern Lights New Years Festival is a 2-day music festival overloaded with super popular international touring artists and EDM DJs. Sprinkle in a few local artists to round out the lineup and you have yourself quite the party. Taking place at the Dena’ina Center in downtown Anchorage, the show promises the biggest New Years Eve experience we’ve seen in awhile. Dance, and ring in the new year in style. Tickets include a meet and greet with most of the performing artists and backstage access. Instagram much?

The Inside Scoop: We’re gonna try and be optimistic here, the concept sounds legit. 2 days of live music? Over 10 up-and-coming EDM artists? You guys remember Travis Porter right? And I Love Memphis currently has a Top 40 single on the radio. So that’s it, right? Hardly. Here are our concerns… ticket prices? ugh. Anything over $50 is stiff. And let’s be honest, 2-day events never work here.  Also, this is an out of state promoter with no prior history here. But for those willing to take the chance, we’re sure it’ll be fine. Besides, its a live music performance packed with hits. Its an all ages event, so old heads beware. Still interested? Event costs: $70 general / $90 VIP

New Years Eve Celebration
KTVA New Year’s Eve Celebration: Moonlight Carnival
This event begins at 5 pm and finishes at 8 pm with what promises to be a spectacular fireworks display. The Anchorage Downtown Partnership has teamed up with the good folks over at KTVA and has invited everyone downtown to bring in the year with free live music, fireworks and a few local food trucks to provide some comfort food. Good deal right? Also, there is a free shuttle service to and from the event, games, and performances from some of the states biggest stars. This is a family friendly event with tons to do for the kiddos, and mom and dad can grab a light adult beverage if needed. Cheers to a new one!

The Inside Scoop: Here’s what we can guarantee… The fireworks will be awesome and the event will be packed. In the past, we have made some complaints about this event and it seems that maybe the Anchorage event gods are listening. This year look to see more food trucks and a price cap of $10 on all menu items. That pretty sweet. Also they have added more performance acts, included rising local hip-hop star Tayy Tarantino and the Blackwater Railroad Company. A free shuttle that will run from 3 pm to 3 am to help with the horrendous parking situation, and a beer garden for those old enough to partake. For those adventurous enough to face the crowd, smart money says, this will be one of the years best. Take a few pictures and let us know. Car pool anyone? Event costs: Free
