By  |

Everyone growing up is faced with the same challenges… one of them is finding your place in the world. Being a fire fighter or famous athlete tops the list for some, saving the planet or being the best Dad in the whole wide world occupies the thoughts of others. We find as we grow up that our ambitions change as we are exposed to different people, places, and experiences.

Alaska has had its share of once local residents who have found themselves in the warm glow of the limelight… Among them, Bartlett High School graduate Preston Pollard. At 26 years old, Preston has found his calling in front of the camera, in the middle of large groups and atop of skateboarding at its highest level. Not to bad for a hometown kid from AK? Here are 8 things you need to know about Preston Pollard.

1. Hometown Kid
There’s something to be said about the ones who struck out on their own and made it happen. Although now based out of California, Preston never hesitates to tell people about his great state and home, Anchorage Alaska. The Alaskan born and raised Preston Pollard also attended Bartlett High School. Its no Dimond High School, but we won’t hold that against him.

2. The Triple Threat
At only 26, Preston is an accomplished skateboarder, model and motivational speaker. Numerous photo shoots and videos, Preston has traveled extensively throughout the United States giving back to local communities, riding and flashing a smile and a style everyone, not just his mother would love.

 3. Gemini
The great strength of the Gemini-born is in their ability to communicate effectively and to think clearly. They also love to share themselves with their friends, and any strangers they meet. Preston was born June 19, 1988… and this pretty much sums up Mr. Pollards current ambitions to a T. Its like someone thought this all out already or something.

4. Avid Reader
What’s better than a few quiet nights and a good book? Preston list some of his favorite reads as The Alchemist,  How to Win Friends and Influence People,  David and Goliath by Malcom Gladwell, Unstoppable by Cynthia Kersey,  32 Ways to Be a Champion in Business by Magic Johnson,  Instinct by T.D. Jakes.

5. Impressive Resume
Being able to live your dream is one thing, but when that dream takes you way beyond where you live, its mind blowing. Preston has modeled for companies like Nike, Forever 21, Sony and even has been featured on bottles of Jones Soda. Along with handling hosting duties online for a show on the Oprah network, he has traveled the world and graced magazines, movie screens and books.

6. Loves the Kids
Always the one with insight, Preston tells us about working with youth in urban communities… “I do this trick at the end of my speech sometimes where I’ll hold up a hundred dollar bill and I ask them if they want it. And they usually go, “Yea, I want the hundred dollars!!” So, I crumple it up and ask them again. “Yea, I still want it.” I’ll stomp on it. “Yea, I still want it.” Then I break it down and I tell them, “In life a lot of people have been stepped on, but at the end of the day, they still have value.”

7. Spiritual and Ambitious
Like a blurb from a dating profile, Prestons character reads as every parents dream date for their daughter. As an inspiration for kids all over the country, being a skateboarder initially comes with preconceived misconceptions about those who push. Preston adds… “My thing is to show through my actions and not preaching at people.” Seems legit… did we mention he’s working on his own line of skateboards?

8. All Around Good Dude
In an industry driven by egos and defining one’s own self worth, Preston continues to be selfless in his efforts. Traveling to underprivileged areas, creating content that inspires and gives hope. Prestons leaves us with this… “For me, God is number one. For those people who maybe don’t believe in God, I would say… continue stepping out of your comfort zone. Be kind to people. Be genuine and down to earth. You never know who you’ll meet”.  And for that, we are glad to have met you Preston, keep up the good work buddy.
