Despite some confrontational letters and worried citizens, the Inaugural North West Cannabis Classic took place at the Anchorage downtown Dena’ina Center some 3 months after marijuana’s legalization, Alaska had become the 3rd state in the union to legalize the substance.  Anchorage was the first stop for the “classic” tour and promised a memorable experience for vendors and visitors alike. Participates would learn about innovative products, have up close demonstrations and hear from the leaders in the industry through informative workshops, competitions and lectures.

The Dena’ina’s sprawling 45,000 sq ft gave way to vendor booths, exhibitors, and cannabis businesses from around the state and a few from across the country. The Cannabis Classic also offered a 21 and older “vape” lounge and live band performances. Local rap rockers Alaska Thunder Funk entertained attendees inside, as most had access to some of the most innovative products in the industry including: art, glass, soils, lights, jewelry and samples.

The North West Cannabis Classic was billed as the states first educational event and trade fair. And among the events many draws, the biggest was its cannabis competition. Specialty growers and vendors from all around the state signed up and submitted the states best cannabis to be judged in categories ranging from best hybrid to best edibles.

Among the winners, Evan Schlosberg from Matanuska Thunder Seeds took home top honors for best hybrids. Brandon Gomez of Alaskan Growers grabbed best sativa, while Justin Roland of Dream Green Farms nabbed best concentrate.

The Northwest Cannabis Classic is a multi-city cannabis competition culminating in a final event where the best will be crowned NW Canna-Best of the Best. The NW Cannabis Classic tour will cover the northwest via Anchorage, Alaska – Tacoma,Washington and Portland, Oregon… all 3 states in which recreational marijuana is now legal.
